Graduate Program

The OSU Philosophy Department offers graduate courses in most areas of philosophy, with particular strengths in the history of philosophy, ethics (both theoretical and applied), philosophy of science (especially philosophy of biology), philosophy of religion, and logic. Graduate students can choose between thesis and non-thesis options.

Because of our excellent student-teacher ratio, graduate students enjoy small seminar sizes, individualized guidance, and easy access to the faculty. Students are given ample office space with quality computing facilities. Most students hold teaching assistantships for the duration of their time in the program. During their first year, teaching assistants usually lead discussion sections. During subsequent years, they have the opportunity to teach their own courses. Research assistantships are available, as well.
