Invitation to All Students of Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy is now accepting applications for membership in Phi Sigma Tau, the National Honor Society in Philosophy. The local chapter is the "Oklahoma Alpha Chapter" of Phi Sigma Tau. It was chartered in 2004 in recognition of the quality of the philosophy program at Oklahoma State University, and membership in Phi Sigma Tau is granted to students in recognition of their scholarship and achievement in the study of philosophy.

As a student of philosophy, you are invited to join the local chapter of Phi Sigma Tau. To qualify for membership, you must:

  • have completed nine hours of philosophy by the end of the current semester,

  • have maintained a GPA of at least 3.0 in all philosophy courses,

  • and have achieved a GPA of at least 3.0 in 80% of your total semester credit hours.

Your GPA should be based upon grades received for work at OSU  together with any grades transferred from any other institutions.  Both undergraduate and graduate students are invited to apply.

The cost of membership is $25.00, a one-time fee which is paid to the national office of Phi Sigma Tau. All members receive a subscription to Dialogue, the journal of Phi Sigma Tau, for the duration of their undergraduate study. The cost of the subscription is included in the one-time membership fee.

Membership in Phi Sigma Tau will be a mark of your achievement in the study of philosophy and your dedication to the ideals of philosophical inquiry. The Department of Philosophy hopes that you will accept this invitation to membership by completing the attached form and returning it with payment of the membership fee to the Department of Philosophy. Please make checks payable to Phi Sigma Tau.
